About Us
Kaleidoscope Children and Youth Productions, an educationally based theatre organization, was founded in April of 2000 by Susan A.Rogers of Salisbury. With over twenty five years of experience and a Master's of Education, she has lead KCYP to be one of the few children's theatre organizations to meet and exceed the Maryland and National Theatre Standards on the eastern shore. Since the conception of KCYP, the organization has touched over 1000 children through hands on workshops and thousands of audience members through its five tier program.
Tier 1 – Workshops & Acting Lessons for children and youth from ages 3 -17. There will be at least three workshops offered throughout the school year and two summer camps. Students learn the basics of character development, playwriting, performing and technical aspects of theatre. Each workshop concludes with a performance opportunity. New this year, we are adding individual/small group acting lessons.
Tier 2 - Main Stage Productions - These polished productions consist of plays and musicals performed mainly by adults with some youth as needed. These are performed for children and families at a variety of locations. This year's Main Stage Productions will include "Alexander and the Not So Good, Very Bad Day" and "Children’s Letters to God" (All child cast) or "The Little Princess"-all musicals and “The Boy Who Stole the Stars”.
Tier 3 - Youth Main Stage Productions - These polished productions are performed by children and youth with limited adult actors. These allow the students to get an idea of what it's like being part of a full stage production. The students gain stage experience and credentials. This year's productions will include "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Cinderella's Glass Slipper".
Tier 4 - Traveling workshops and performances
Tier 5 – New this Year – A Variety Showcase Event – An evening of entertainment that features a Youth performer or group/band, a short one-act or scene and ends with karaoke and open mic night. This is open to the public. This is a great opportunity to showcase local talent. The featured performers receive a performance stipend. Proceeds from the night go toward the scholarship fund.
KCYP is dedicated to promoting a quality and professional product. In their existence so far, KCYP has presented numerous productions including "A Christmas Carol", "The Boy Who Stole the Stars", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", as well as, over twenty theatre workshops. Through these workshops and productions students not only learn hands-on performing arts techniques, but also, build self confidence, responsibility and the importance of team work. Their vision is to promote the theatre arts in an enriching positive environment for and with a diverse group of children. All of the programming is family oriented. KCYP tries to keep its program fees low to accommodate the economic demands on families. They also offer scholarships, discounts and payment plans for students.
